About Systemic Press

Mission

Systemic Press exists to publish nonfiction that names what institutions omit. Our books examine the structural conditions - in law, healthcare, therapeutic, administrative, policy, and social services - that allow harm to persist not because of individual failure, but because the systems themselves are arranged to produce that outcome.

We believe rigorous documentation changes what is possible. The record is not neutral, and neither are we.

What We Publish

Our catalogue focuses on long-form nonfiction grounded in primary evidence: institutional records, case analysis, policy documents, and structural critique. We publish work that is accessible to general readers while meeting the standards expected by researchers, advocates, and practitioners.

Current areas of focus include domestic and sexual violence, institutional accountability, and the structural dimensions of social harm.

Editorial Standards

Sources

Systemic Press articles rely on authoritative and primary sources wherever reasonably available, including federal and provincial legislation, published court decisions, Statistics Canada and Juristat data, government reports, and peer-reviewed research.

Each article lists the principal authorities and sources it relies on, grouped by type, so readers can review the basis for the information presented.

Patterns, not individuals

Systemic Press writes about how systems work, not about individual people or private disputes. Articles examine patterns, risks, institutional practices, and the conditions that produce systemic outcomes.

Articles do not publish private case files, identify private individuals, or use invented or composite scenarios. Published court decisions are listed among an article’s authorities by their published citation. Article text describes the legal principle a decision established, not the parties involved.

Law described, not argued

Articles explain relevant principles of Canadian law and published legal authorities in plain language for survivors, families, practitioners, and other readers.

Every article identifies its author. Articles currently published by Systemic Press are written by Adam Sons, MBA, author of The Invisible Architecture of Abuse: A Study of Systemic Failure. Drafting may be assisted by AI tools; every article is reviewed by the author before publication.
