A note on device safety. If someone may be monitoring your phone or computer, consider viewing this page on a safer device, such as a public library computer or a trusted friend's phone. The Quick Exit button at the top of this page will immediately take you to an unrelated website, but it cannot erase your browsing history. Nothing you check off on this page is saved or sent anywhere - your selections disappear when you leave.
These checklists are drawn from The Invisible Architecture of Abuse: A Study of Systemic Failure. They exist because institutions record what is reported and documented - and too often lose sight of everything else. The steps below are designed to help you create the record that institutions will later rely on.
You do not have to do all of this at once. Start with what is safe for you right now, and read at a pace that feels safe for you.
Reporting Checklist
Processes vary by province and municipality. If you are outside Alberta, contact your local police, crisis line, or victim services for jurisdiction-specific steps.
Documentation Checklist
Documentation is most powerful when it is consistent. Even small records matter.
Digital Safety
Laws on recording conversations vary by province. Seek local legal advice if unsure.
Your selections are not saved or transmitted - they clear when you leave this page. If you print a copy, store it somewhere the other person cannot find it.

The Invisible Architecture of Abuse
A Study of Systemic Failure · By Adam Sons, MBA
These checklists are adapted from the book's back-matter resources. The book itself goes further: a forensic examination of how legal, healthcare, therapeutic, administrative, and social institutions are structured in ways that make domestic and sexual violence statistically invisible - and how survivors, advocates, and practitioners can navigate those structures more knowledgeably.
Written for survivors, those who support them, and professionals working in this field. Whatever brings you here, you belong here.
